Reproductive Justice is under constant attack in the current political climate. Join us for a discussion on the history of the Reproductive Freedom Movement and the history that continues to influence modern attitudes about reproductive justice and bodily autonomy, especially in the law.
We will be joined by Stephanie Gorton, author of "The Icon & The Idealist," the New York Times bestselling book that brings to life the competing visions for birth control of two Reproductive Freedom activists: Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, and her lesser-known contemporary Mary Ware Dennett. While we will talk about the historical events that are detailed in the book, no prior reading of the book is required to attend!
Topics of discussion include:
- The past and present intersection of feminism and media
- The enduring conflict between morality, medicine, and the law
- The role of women’s voices in social change
