FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

BOSTON – June 14, 2024 -The Women’s Bar Foundation was profoundly saddened by the passing of Mary K. Ryan on Tuesday.  Mary was an inaugural board member of the Women’s Bar Foundation, serving from 1993 – 1995.  She was deeply committed to access to justice, the core mission of the Women’s Bar Foundation.  She was a fervent supporter of pro bono work in the legal community and understood the core needs of legal services organizations.  Mary strongly supported the WBF throughout her professional career.  Her tremendous dedication lay the groundwork for the success of the WBF, and she made a point of attending - and applauding - the WBF’s 30th Anniversary at a special celebration last fall.

Mary spent her professional career at Nutter and was indeed a trailblazer for women attorneys.  Mary was a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Environmental Lawyers and a Director of the Environmental Business Council of New England for over 25 years.  She served on the SJC’s Access to Justice Commission and was active in numerous bar associations at the local and national levels, as well as specialty bar associations and pro bono initiatives.

WBF President Margaret Caulfield remarked, “All of us at the WBF are deeply saddened by Mary’s passing.  She was well known to the members of the WBF board who admired her deep commitment and dedication to providing free legal assistance to low-income individuals, her outstanding skill as an attorney and her generous spirit.  We will honor her outstanding contributions as we continue the WBF’s important work.”

About the Women’s Bar Foundation
