Wolf Greenfield and Women’s Bar Foundation Team Up to Strengthen Free Legal Services
(Boston, May 10, 2016) – Intellectual property law firm Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks, P.C. today announced it has partnered with the Women’s Bar Foundation of Massachusetts (WBF) to support the organization’s efforts ensuring access to justice for low-income women through free civil legal services.
Through this new partnership, Wolf Greenfield is supporting one of the WBF’s most important initiatives: The Family Law Project for Battered Women. The Family Law Project recruits, trains and mentors approximately 150 volunteer attorneys each year to provide pro bono legal assistance to low-income survivors of domestic violence. With Wolf Greenfield’s support, the Family Law Project is able to improve trainings, subsidize client litigation costs and expand representation to non-English speaking clients.
“Each year, the Family Law Project for Battered Women responds to more than 1,500 calls from women suffering in abusive and often dangerous relationships,” said Women’s Bar Foundation Executive Director Pattye Comfort. “Through the WBF, the Family Law Project provides full representation to 125 survivors in family law matters each year, and assistance and counsel to an additional 200 women. Wolf Greenfield’s partnership is helping us introduce much-needed support that we’ll use every day.”
Support services include a subscription to a “language line,” which is an on-demand translation service by telephone. More and more, volunteers at the Family Law Project for Battered Women are challenged to offer support to callers and clients who speak languages for which the organization is unable to find translators. With the language line, the organization will be able to accept clients that it otherwise could not assist.
“Wolf Greenfield has been a champion for the WBF and the Family Law Project for years,” continued Comfort. “In particular, Associate Chelsea Loughran’s dedication and commitment to her clients have been so heroic she has earned our Volunteer Attorney Award and Pro Bono Award. This year, we posthumously honor her client Nery Arrano, a woman whose courage was such an inspiration to Chelsea and to us all that going forward the Pro Bono Award will be named for her.”
Among the events the WBF hosts is an annual Comedy Night gala, which brings together the Massachusetts legal community, and provides an opportunity for networking, celebration, and laughter, all while raising money for the organization’s important pro bono legal work. At the 2016 Comedy Night gala, being held May 19 at the Boston Harbor Hotel, the WBF will present the Nery Arrano Award to Patricia Levesh, Managing Attorney of the Family Law Unit at Greater Boston Legal Services. Ms. Levesh is being recognized for her long-standing commitment to assisting low-income survivors of domestic violence through the Family Law Project for Battered Women.
“The WBF provides crucial services to women and families across Massachusetts, offering them the legal support and services they need and deserve but otherwise wouldn’t be able to access,” said Wolf Greenfield President and Managing Partner Tim Oyer. “Wolf Greenfield is proud to partner with this outstanding organization, whose community-centric commitment exemplifies our firm’s values. We look forward to furthering this partnership with the WBF and supporting key initiatives like The Family Law Project.”
