In a process that started on a long bike ride a few years prior, Steve Anderson and Art Kreiger chose to join forces in 1988 to follow their shared passion of practicing environmental law at the highest level, in both complex litigation matters and sophisticated transactions without the financial pressures and work-life imbalance inherent in large law firms. They set out to provide top-quality legal services to clients on matters in which they believed. George Hall soon joined them, and over the years, A&K’s culture attracted many former colleagues, as well as new talent, expanding the firm’s mission and services. These attorneys brought their own passions and insights, and they grew their practices in a supportive environment where lawyers were encouraged to bring in challenging and interesting work. More than 30 years later, A&K is home to top legal talent in environmental and land use law, public law, real estate, insurance law, airport law, construction law, white-collar defense, and internal investigations. Steve and Art are proud to see the firm they founded as home to so many prominent litigators, transactional lawyers, and counselors who came together to share a vision, be leaders in their fields and practice law in the areas that they are passionate about.

A&K is committed to placing diversity, equity, and inclusion at the core of its work. We’re also determined to use our resources to expand opportunities and to diversify the legal profession. We make sure our hiring practices include expanded geographic outreach and enhanced connections to diverse, law school, ethnic and racial affinity bar groups. A&K cannot make the changes needed in the legal community by itself, so we support and continue to develop ongoing partnerships with a host of affinity bar groups and legal orgs like the WBA.

We launched back in 2021 the A&K Diversity Fund through which we are directly investing in the future of aspiring lawyers from racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the legal profession. The firm will award annual stipends to law school and college students to help address the challenges faced by those who lack the financial capital to focus exclusively on their education and whose financial situation may limit their range of legal career options.
